Tasmanian SC Championships – Hobart Recap
What a weekend that was. Our senior squad made the trip down to Hobart for the Tasmanian Short Course Championships and came home with tired bodies, fast swims, plenty of laughs, and stories we’ll be retelling for a while. From pool deck to dinner table, everyone chipped in to make it more than just a swim meet — it was a proper team adventure.
Thanks to Our Coaches
Ian and Nicholas, we’re lucky to have you. You’ve built something special at Northcote — a place where swimmers feel encouraged, supported, and pushed just the right amount. Not every club can say that. The way you balance technical know‑how with genuine care makes all the difference. Our swimmers know you’re in their corner, whether it’s offering feedback between races, a quiet word of encouragement, or the occasional sharp nudge when it’s needed.
Thanks to Our Parent Crew
These weekends don’t just happen. Behind the scenes, our parent crew kept the wheels turning. Sarah and Brent were steady and dependable as always. Stephanie and Jacob went above and beyond in the kitchen — cooking up a storm and making sure no one went hungry (truth be told, the food could have been the highlight if the racing wasn’t so good). And Christine once again pulled the strings on logistics, making sure we were in the right place, at the right time, with the right gear. We couldn’t have managed without you.
To Our Swimmers
And then there’s the reason we were all there — the swimmers. The trip to Hobart wasn’t just about catching a plane and jumping in the water. It was the result of months of early mornings, late nights, hard training sessions, and the discipline to keep going when the body wanted to quit.
Competing at championships level throws challenges at you — not just in the pool, but in learning to handle nerves, bounce back after setbacks, and find your best when it counts. Remember to take joy from the small wins along the journey. Not every swim can be a PB. Take pleasure in the moment of expectation on the blocks before the race, the perfect split stroke, the perfect turn, the perfect touch. Even a DQ cannot take these things away from you.
What impressed us most wasn’t only the times (though there were plenty of PBs and standout swims) but the way you carried yourselves. You cheered, you supported each other when things didn’t go to plan, and you made every PB feel like a team win. That’s what sets Northcote apart — the culture you’ve built together. You did the club proud, both as athletes and as teammates.
We came home with medals, PBs, and plenty of memories. But more importantly, we came home with friendships a little stronger and a reminder of what’s possible when we take this journey together.
Well done, team — here’s to the next one.
